Where Do We Get Industrial Nitrogen From – Air Separation Unit (ASU)

Air separation plants use cryogenic distillation to isolate the nitrogen (nitrogen gas).
The process that chills the air to extremely low temperatures so the component gases (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, xenon, neon and krypton) can be separated.
An air separation unit (ASU) is a major industrial plant for producing large commercial quantities of nitrogen (see accompanying image).
There are other processes that can be used including membrane based generators and pressure swing absorption (PSA) generators.
Both of these techniques use fairly small sized equipment that can be used as on-site nitrogen generators.
