Beer Gas Percentages

Beer Gas is typically a blend of nitrogen (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).

The most common ratios for Guinness Stout are 70% nitrogen and 30% CO₂ or 75% nitrogen and 25% CO₂.

These blends provides a a creamy mouthfeel and less carbonation.

It is used primarily for “nitro” beers, such as stouts and ales.

If you prefer a crisp and fizzy beer, beer gases with higher percentages of CO₂ are the best choices.

A higher percentage of nitrogen will produces fine bubbles, a dense head, and a creamy mouthfeel.

What Pressure Should Your Beer Gas Be Set On

For most ales, ambers, pale ales and IPAs, you want to set your system between 7 and 13 PSI.

For lagers, set your regulator between 10 and 14 PSI.

If your beer is too foamy, reduce the pressure.
