No Door-to-Door Sales People for Elgas
In the last year, the ACCC has charged five energy retailers with unacceptable sales tactics.
Some of the most serious charges relate to allegations that door-to-door salespeople harassed and lied to customers.
Elgas is proud to say that we are not one of these providers.
The ACCC Gets Involved
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) accuses the door-to-door salespeople, who were employed by sales contractor, of lying to consumers and breaching their rights, telling them that there was a government requirement to change energy suppliers..
They also allege that customers were told that they were being overcharged by their current energy provider.
Other allegations include pressuring customers, failing to inform customers of the 10-day cooling off period, and failing to leave a property when asked.
"The ACCC is also alleging that the sales representatives engaged in unconscionable conduct, which involved particularly vulnerable consumers who were unable to understand the agreement," ACCC chairman Rod Sims said in a statement.
The allegations involve homeowners in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
Two companies were fined while legal action continues against three more.
Public complaints about high pressure tactics and lobbying by consumer groups also led to three major providers stopping door-to-door selling this past year.
The Elgas Philosophy
The Elgas philosophy is that we earn our customers.
Elgas does not employ any high pressure sales tactics.
We do not use door-to-door sales people nor do we use telemarketers.
We make information available via our web site, and other advertising, to allow our customers to make an informed decision without any pressure.
We might get a few less customers than those other guys, but we know our customers choose us without any coercion.
In fact, Elgas also has a No Contracts philosophy.
Some suppliers try to lock you in to a 12 or 24 month contract for your home LPG.
Elgas believes you should stay because you want to, not because you have to.
To do that, we focus on service and value.
We must be doing something right, because we are Australia’s largest supplier of LPG to homes and businesses.
Your Consumer Rights
