Out of This World LPG BBQ Trivia!

Did you know there is LPG in space?
Not as convenient as your local petrol station but...

NASA Finds LPG

Titan is Saturn’s largest moon.
The large cloud covered moon has always been a bit of a mystery since its discovery, in 1655, by Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens.

Saturn's moon Titan Propane (LPG) was discovered on Titan, in 1980, by the NASA Voyager 1 spacecraft.

To find out more about Titan, NASA sent the Cassini spacecraft to do additional research on Titan starting in 2004.
The Cassini-Huygens mission was a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.
The project continued for 4 years, with more than 60 flybys.
So, what did they find?
Amongst other things, they found an assortment of hydrocarbon chemicals including a lot of Propane.
This was important to the scientists because these complex molecules could indicate the presence of other complex biological molecules.

Titan is a Great Place to BBQ

Orbiting BBQNASA estimates that there is enough LPG gas on Titan to fill up more than SIX BILLION BBQ gas bottles
With that much LPG, you could cook about two trillion hamburgers.
That’s a lot of LPG!
So, now all we have to do is figure out how to get it back to Australia…
Strange but true LPG trivia!
