What is Carbon Neutral & What are Carbon Offsets?
"Carbon Neutral" is the term used when there is a balance between the CO2 emissions from burning LPG and abatement activities which reduce greenhouse gas emissions from other sources by an equivalent amount. Many people wish to compensate for the greenhouse gases their everyday activities emit. To 'offset' these emissions, they can reimburse someone who undertakes an activity that abates(reduces or remove) greenhouse gas emissions. Offset projects can either be the capture of emissions (such as the capture of methane from waste, or the capture of CO2 by tree planting) or energy efficiency projects that reduce emissions. These abatement activities contribute to a net reduction of Australia's carbon footprint. SWAP'n'GO GREEN® is for customers who wish to offset the emissions from their LPG use in this way. When you choose SWAP ’n’GO GREEN, Elgas engages not-for-profit Greenfleet to plant native trees in Australia to recapture emissions equivalent to those associated with the production, transport and use of the LPG . The emissions are recaptured as the resulting forests grow. Greenhouse Gases & Climate ChangeThe most common greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide. CO2 represents 80% of greenhouse gases and is created when fossil fuels are burnt. It is the main focus of climate change concerns. Greenhouse gases act like a blanket around the earth. But as this layer 'thickens' it absorbs more heat and causes temperatures to rise. This increase in temperature and its impact is referred to as climate change. What are the potential impacts of climate change on the planet?
