How do I order LPG? New Customers click here to ORDER GAS ONLINE or call 131 161. What is LPG? LPG stands for Liquefied Petroleum Gas, which is a generic term for a mixture of Propane and Butane gases. When stored under pressure, they become a liquid in much less space, making LPG easy to transport.
They are similar in terms of usage. However, LPG produces greater heat due to its higher calorific value.
No. Each type of gas requires different amounts of oxygen to burn properly, so different burners are needed in the appliances. All gas installations and conversions must be carried out by a licensed gasfitter.
Yes, but it's a different blend of Propane and Butane commonly known as LPG Autogas, so it's not compatible with other gas appliances.
It's a slightly different type of gas with a higher percentage mix of butane. But the pricing is mainly based on the volume used. Service stations purchase their LPG in large volumes, storing up to 65,000 litres at a time and refilling frequently.
Yes. It's also used in space heaters, water heating systems, cookers and other applications.
The price of LPG varies on a monthly basis based on a range of international and local market factors.
If used and handled in accordance with prescribed procedures LPG is safe. As with electricity, natural gas, petroleum and other household chemicals, care should always be taken when using LPG. Elgas has established an unrivalled reputation for safety, from regular compliance checks of your cylinders to the comprehensive safety and maintenance schedule of our tankers.
Elgas has two methods of delivering LPG to your home: EasyGasTM: Exclusive to Elgas, our premium distribution method involves delivery via state of the art tankers, which refill your cylinders on site. A sophisticated computer system is connected remotely to our database to register the exact volume of gas distributed and issues your delivery docket on the spot. Exchange: In cases where we are unable to deliver via tanker, we deliver cylinders to your home. Ideally, with two cylinders connected, we're able to replace one, when empty, ensuring you always have enough supply.
The price of LPG really depends on how much you use. The more you use, the cheaper it becomes.
LPG occurs naturally, or is produced as a by-product of oil refining. On a unit energy basis, it produces less carbon dioxide than that emitted from coal-fired power stations, oil or wood fuels. Carbon dioxide is a major contributor to global warming. In Autogas, LPG produces less carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons than petrol engines, which helps to address health and smog issues.
Elgas has flexible access to many LPG sources including imports to help maintain supply security. Our main supply terminals include a dedicated facility at Dandenong in Victoria and an LPG storage cavern at Port Botany in Sydney. Haulage contracts with Australia's largest specialised operators ensure a continuous flow of LPG to and through the Elgas supply network.
We supply LPG to most parts of Australia through strategically located depots and Customer Service Centres that provide localised service.
